Berkeley Heights Man Arrested on Burglary Charges in Bergen County
Oliver Blanco, 24, is now in Bergen County Jail on burglary and theft charges after eluding law enforcement for several months.
Glen Rock police say they've nabbed a man who allegedly burglarized a Valley Road home back in September.
Oliver Blanco, 24, of Berkeley Heights, remains in Bergen County Jail on $100,000 bond on charges of burglary and theft.
Glen Rock Police Chief Frederick Stahman told Patch early Friday afternoon that detectives and sheriff's department personnel, lifted finger prints from the Valley Road home on Sept. 30. Cash and jewelry had been missing in the afternoon heist. Extensive interviewing, Stahman said, narrowed the suspect list to one man – Blanco.
Though police went to Blanco's last known address in Berkley Heights, Blanco was nowhere to be found. Detectives issued a warrant for his arrest, which was also disseminated in a state-wide messaging system. Weeks passed and there was still no sign of Blanco.
Then, a few days ago, Glen Rock detectives received a call. It was the Summit police. Blanco had checked into the hospital for what Stahman described as "minor health issues." The alleged burglar had been staying at his mother's house in Summit, Stahman told Patch.
On Wednesday, Blanco was in cuffs and transported to Bergen County Jail. Stahman congratulated Glen Rock detectives James Calaski and Eric Reamy for their work on the arrest.
Blanco will likely remain jailed until grand jury hearings.
