News and Notes

Baseball

NP 11, Hillside 1: The Pioneers were led by Marc Giacalone who drove in six runs on three hits. Giacalone also swiped a bag.  

Elizabeth 7, NP 3: Marc Giacalone picked up three hits in the loss to Elizabeth. 

NP 8, Roselle Park 7: The Pioneers rallied from a 5-0 deficit to earn the victory over Roselle Park. 

NP 9, Cedar Grove 1: Bryan Sherman picked up a triple and four RBI in the Pioneers' win.

NP 20, Hillside 0: Marc Giacalone picked up five RBIs and a home run in the big win over Hillside. 

NP 15, Newark Academy 3: Topped off an impressive weekend with a big win over Newark Academy, led by Marc Giacalone's four RBIs.

NP 18, Roselle 1: Bryan Sherman led the way with four RBI in the Pioneers' 17-run victory over Roselle.

NP 3, Roselle Park 2: Starter Michael Marchesano pitched five innings in the win and drove in one of the Pioneers' three runs.

Softball

NP 5, Cranford 4: The Pioneers rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for the win over Cranford. 

NP 6, Rahway 1: Kelsey Quinn threw seven innings of one-hit ball in the 6-1 win over Rahway. 

NP 3, Linden 0: Cassandra Squeri fired a complete game, 11 strikeout one-hitter to beat the Linden Tigers. 

NP 11, Hillside 1: Nicole Saitta picked up five RBI in and Alexandra Esposito had three in the win over Hillside. 

NP 8, Union Catholic 1:  Cassandra Squeri had 11 strikeouts and went 2-for-3 w/ two RBI. Alex Esposito Jenna madden an Suzie Gargiulo all had three hits each. 

NP 3, Elizabeth 2: Cassandra Squeri struck out 13 batters in seven innings of work in the win over Elizabeth. 

Boys Lacrosse

NP 7, Millburn 6: Dave Barletta, Jonathan Ebert and James Burke each scored two goals in the Pioneers' triple-overtime victory.

NP 16, Newark Academy 13: Dave Barletta (13 GB) and Robby Fay (10 GB) along with James Burke (6 G, 4 A) led the Pioneers to the three-goal win over Newark Academy.

NP 7, Oratory 6: Jonathan Ebert (3 goals), Jack Harvey (2 goals) and James Burke (2 goals) handled the scoring for the Pioneers in the win over Oratory. 

Johnson 13, NP 11: Derek Singer and Jonathan Ebert each put in three goals but the Pioneers were unable to get by Johnson. The Crusaders outscored the Pioneers by three in the 4th to get the 13-11 win.

NP 11, Del Val 7: Dave Barletta scooped up 12 groundballs in the Pioneers' win over Delaware Valley. Jonathan Ebert (4 G), James Burke (3 G, 2 A) and Jack Harvey (2 G, 1 A) led the way on the offensive end. 

NP 13, SPF 6: Jonathan Ebert led the Pioneers with three goals and Dave Barletta, James Burke, Jack Harvey, Derek Singer and Dan Sullivan all had two. 

NP 11, Old Bridge 5: James Burke and Jonathan Ebert each picked up four goals in the win over Old Bridge. 

NP 14, Livingston 9: Dave Barletta was outstanding in the win over Livingston scoring four goals, assisting on three and scooping up 10 groundballs in the win over the Lancers. Jack Harvey added three goals of his own and Jonathan Ebert, Dan Sullivan and James Burke all added two. 

NP 9, GL 5: Goalie Brian Valerio made sixteen saves and Jonathan Ebert led the way with four goals and an assist. 

NP 13, Nutley 2: Jonathan Ebert scored four goals in the Pioneers win over Nutley. 

The Pioneers have tallied 33 goals in their first two victories. 

Girls Lacrosse

NP 17, Mo Beard 13: Goalie Julia Loria stopped 18 Mo Beard shots on the way to the 17-13 New Providence win. 

NP 17, St. E's 8: Dominique Iacovelli led the way with six goals and two assists while Jill Balog assisted on four goals and scored three of her own. 

NP 12, Bergen Tech 11: Jill Balog netted five goals and assisted on two while Dominique Iacovelli scored four and Gaby Estupinian had three in the win over Bergen Tech.

Verona 16, NP 10: Jill Balog (4) and Dominique Iacovelli (6) accounted for all of the Pioneers goal in the loss to Verona. 

NP 12, GL 8: Emily Molstad picked up four goals and three assists in the win over the Highlanders

NP 20, Mt. St. Dominic 19: Dominique Iacovelli picked up 11 goals in the high-scoring win for the Pioneers. 

Madison 20, NP 9: Dominique Iacovelli (4 G), Emily Molstad (3 G) and Jill Balog (2 G) handled the scoring for NP in the loss to Madison. 

Montclair 12, NP 11: Dominique Iacovelli scored five goals in the Pioneers' one-goal loss to Montclair.
