Community Update

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND — February 11, 2014 — Erickson Living, a leading developer and manager of continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) in the United States, has started construction of a new 540,000-square-foot CCRC at 535 Mountain Avenue in New Providence, New Jersey.

“A retirement community in northwest Union County is a natural extension of Erickson Living’s commitment to serving the state of New Jersey,” said Chris Emmett, Vice President of Regional Operations for Erickson Living. “Lantern Hill is a premier property, and we embrace the opportunity to serve those who will live and work at this distinctive community.”

Erickson Living brings a wide scope of resources and expertise in operating entrance fee CCRCs. The company’s mission and culture of caring, commitment, and professionalism is recognized nationwide and will serve as the foundation for creating an exceptional resident experience. Erickson Living’s gold standard of excellence, which has driven high occupancies, strong resident and employee satisfaction, and investment in the healthcare and services of its communities, will be an important part of its formula for success.

On November 17, Erickson Living selected "http://www.wohlsenconstruction.com/" Wohlsen Construction as the general contractor for its eighteenth community. The project architect for Lantern Hill is Lantz-Boggio Architects of Englewood, Colorado. The planned community will consist of five inter-connected buildings, including 275 newly designed spacious independent living apartment homes and 85 continuing care residences offering assisted living, memory care, long term care and short term rehabilitation. Residents will also enjoy a fitness facility with an indoor swimming pool, as well as a wide range of services, including restaurants, housekeeping, and social/ recreational programs.

There is a strong demand for desirable senior living in northern New Jersey. The senior population in this geographic area is growing rapidly and this location remains a destination of choice for seniors from across the country. According to the Blueprint for Healthy Aging in New Jersey (written by the State of New Jersey,  Department of Health and Human Services), all of the North Jersey counties have populations aged 60+ years that are projected to increase a minimum of 35 percent from 2000 to 2025.

Lantern Hill is the third Erickson Living community in New Jersey; others are located in Morris and Monmouth counties. The current plan is for the CCRC to open in the second half of 2015.  The on-site sales office will open in the spring 2014.
