Nicaragua, Haiti, Honduras and Pakistan

What do the above have in common?  They are all countries that Byron Miller, a Westfield resident and President of Portasoft has visited to assist in the efforts to either provide pure water or immunize children against polio.

 

Over one third of the people on Earth have inadequate sanitation.  This leads to impure diseased and/or parasitic water for drinking and bathing.  780 million people have only dirty water to drink.  2000 children die each day from waterborne disease.

Through the continued efforts of volunteers that travel to impoverished areas in those few remaining countries where it exists, Polio is close to being eradicated as a dreaded disease worldwide.  These volunteers put themselves at risk to do this.  In the past year, 35 volunteers were killed in Nigeria and Pakistan while there to administer the vaccine.
