TryCAN Basketball for Kids with Special Needs Begins in NP January 4

New Providence Recreation will host TryCAN Basketball for kids with special needs beginning January 4.  The program will run for eight Saturday afternoons at the Municipal Center Gym, 360 Elkwood Avenue.  Alyson York, who holds a Masters in Special Education and is a BSBA Candidate, leads the fun-filled classes with the help of two assistant coaches and trained TryCAN mentors. 

Three skill level groupings address various ability levels:

·         All Stars (3:05-3:50PM).  Generally ages 11-18.  Spend half the class on skills and half on scrimmaging.  $60.

·         Pros (3:55-4:35PM).  Generally ages 8-13 focused on skills with scrimmages introduced as the kids’ abilities progress.  $55.

·         Collegiate (4:40-5:15PM).  Generally ages 7-10 focused on basic skills and understanding of the game.  $50.

Registration is first come, first served and may be done through the Recreation website: www.newprov.org/recreation.  Select Online Registration, New Providence Recreation and 2013-2014 Special Needs & Mentoring.  Registration forms are also available online and at the Recreation Department.  Contact 908-464-4430 for more information.   Those registering by December 8 are guaranteed a program shirt. 

TryCAN is a collaboration of several communities offering an array of recreation programs for youth with special needs or those who require accommodation.  No nonresident fees are involved and all are welcome.  For more information, visit www. Newprov.org/recspecialneeds.cfm.
