9/11 Remembrances in Berkeley Heights, Mountainside, New Providence

County to honor the fallen at Echo Lake Park.

The 60 Union County residents killed on 9/11 will be remembered in a county ceremony Wednesday, while locally, Berkeley Heights and a New Providence church will mark the anniversary with remembrances.

The county ceremony will be held at the Union County Sept. 11 Memorial at Echo Lake Park in Mountainside. It will consist of an honor guard presentation and candle lighting in memory of those killed that day that the public is invited to attend, according to a release from the county.

Berkeley Heights will hold a ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at 9-11 Memorial Park, Park Avenue. Local officials will speak, and police, fire and rescue squads will present wreaths.

Additionally, Faith Lutheran Church in New Providence will conduct two memorial masses on Wednesday.

There will be a morning mass at 6:45 a.m. in the church's memorial garden as well as a candlelight service at 7:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary, 524 South St., New Providence.
