Both Township And County Oppose Kean University Expansion In Union
Kean University has their eye on a piece of property formerly owned by Merck pant in Union Township, causing Mayor Clifton People Jr. to worry about the effects the expansion would have on residents’ property tax bills, according to nj.com.
The property would become tax-exempt if Kean were to make the purchase, which could cause a decrease in ratables for a township already working with a tight budget, according to nj.com.
Both the township and the county have opposed the expansion in attempts at saving an estimated $1.1 million worth of property taxes to become obsolete, according to nj.com.
