Hetfield House Commemorative Bricks Available for Veteran's Day Dedication

Mountainside Veteran Brick Sale Extended

Deadline for ordering bricks honoring veterans has been extended to September 30th.  These bricks will join the hundred or so along the walkway to the Hetfield House, Mountainside’s historic landmark.  They will be dedicated at a ceremony Sunday, November 11th, Veterans Day, at 2 p.m.

“This year, we’re hoping for more recent veterans to be represented, from Vietnam, up through Desert Storm and beyond,” said Don Jeka, Historic Restoration committee member.

Family members can chip in to pay for each brick.  Bricks can be purchased for $100, including two lines with14 characters, spaces and punctuation per line.  One additional line may be purchased for $10.  Each line can be extended to 18 characters for $10 per line. “This would allow brick purchasers to include the veterans name, rank and branch served and other information.  It is a wonderful way to recognize their service as a lasting tribute, Jeka added.  “An example of a typical brick honoring a veteran might be inscribed:  John Doe, US N, 1943-45 or George Smith, US MC, 1968-69.  You can see a typical brick in the window of the Mountainside Deli, honoring Jim Debbie.”

Brick application forms can be picked up at the Library or Borough Hall.  All proceeds go to support the Hetfield House, Mountainsides’ own historic treasure.

“We will be planning a special dedication service for the veteran’s bricks,” says Cindy West, committee member, “so get your order in by September 30th, 2012.  That way, the bricks can be ready for installation along the walk in time for Veterans Day. We will be reading each veteran’s name as in the past during the short ceremony.  A small American flag will identify the veteran bricks.”

All proceeds from the brick sale go to preserving and maintaining the Hetfield House.
