Governor Christie Attends Celgene Groundbreaking Ceremony

Gov. Chris Christie spoke at Celgene Corporation's groundbreaking ceremony at their corporate headquarters in Summit Wednesday morning,  thanking the biopharmaceutical company for investing their business in the State of New Jersey.

"Celgene is a great example of how a productive partnership can occur between state government and the private sector," Gov. Christie said. "Going all the way back to 1999 when Celgene only had 35 employees, and the state of New Jersey partnered with them through our Economic Development Authority to help with financing that kept the company growing."

The governor said Celgene has created over 1,600 jobs in the state since the start of their participation in New Jersey's Business Employment Incentive Program (BEIP) program.

According to their website, Celgene is a global company dedicated to the discovery, development, and commercialization of contemporary methods for treating cancer and immune-inflammatory related diseases in patients who have limited treatment options.

Congressman Leonard Lance was also in attendance for Wednesday's ceremony.

"We are the medicine chest of the world, the congressman said. "We will continue to be the medicine chest of the world so long as Celgene and other great companies invest in New Jersey. That is what is occurring today."
