New Providence Gets New Bagel Shop

Dahams Bagel and Deli sees steady patronage after three weeks since opening.

Eddie Dahams saw a void in downtown New Providence - there was no full service deli. So he decided, after years in the business, to open a bagel shop in New Providence to cater to the community.

Enter: Dahams Bagel and Deli. Dahams said his bagel store gives the best quality food with handmade attention that brings a sophistication to a sandwich.

And since the deli opened three weeks ago, there has been a steady stream of clients who have made the deli their new weekly lunch.

"I came here when it opened," said James DeMarcus, who works nearby. "It's a pretty good sandwich, good service and they get it done quickly. It's everything you want in a local deli."

The deli is named after his father, and even though his dad, Dahams Dahams, was not a chef, he was the inspiration for helping his son achieve his goals. Dahams hopes the bagel shop will become a favorite of the neighborhood and will help develop the downtown area into a vibrant area.

The deli offers hot and cold sandwiches, with at least six specialty cream cheeses made daily for its selection of more than 12 different kinds of bagels. There is an emphasis on the handmade production, which Dahams said sets his deli apart from others.

"Everything is done by hand," he said, noting that each sandwich is made to order. "It's that attention we pride ourselves on."

The deli is open daily from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sundays from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1292 Springfield Avenue in New Providence.
