“We're pleased the MarCom judges recognized the extraordinary publicity we received to support our key fundraiser for the year,” said Elisse Glennon, Executive Director, NJ Sharing Network Foundation. “Newspapers, radio, television and online outlets around the state produced poignant reports about our 5K teams, educating the public about the critical importance of organ donation.”

Much of the news coverage focused on organ recipients given a second chance at life, as well as on donor families who participated in the 5K walk/race to honor loved ones who died and donated their organs. More than 50 news outlets throughout New Jersey produced news reports about the June 10 event.

Some 250 teams comprising nearly 5,000 participants hit the streets of New Providence for what has become the largest fundraiser in the 25-year history of NJ Sharing Network. More than $1 million has been raised through the 5K for people who need life-saving organ transplants in New Jersey since the event debuted last year, a record fundraiser for the non-profit organization. Next year’s event is scheduled for Sunday, June 9, 2013.

The MarCom competition has grown to perhaps the largest of its kind in the world. A look at the winners shows a range in size from individual communicators to media conglomerates and Fortune 500 companies.

Judges are industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry, according to a MarCom statement.

Winners were selected from more than 200 categories in seven forms of media and communication efforts: marketing, publications, marketing/promotion, public service/pro bono, creativity and electronic/interactive. About 18 percent of the entries won the Platinum Award, the organization’s top honor.
