Summer Concert Series Kicks Off Tonight in New Providence

"The 1910 Fruitgum Company" will perform tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Centennial Park. Presented by the New Providence Business and Professional Association, a children's concert will kick off the event at 6:30 p.m. with "Hocus Pocus Magic."

"The 1910 Fruitgum Company" will appear tonight at 7:30 p.m. at "A Night Under the Stars" Summer Concert Series in Centennial Park, presented by the New Providence Business and Professional Association.  

The evening’s entertainment will begin with a children’s concert at 6:30 p.m., featuring "Hocus Pocus Magic." This is Joe Fisher’s annual appearance in New Providence where he presents his unique brand of children’s magic.

The group virtually exploded onto the National charts in 1968 with the first single release Simon Says. The song quickly moved up the charts to become number two nationally and reached the top of the charts in the United Kingdom.

The group followed up this initial success with another smash hit, 1-2-3 Red Light and their next hit record Indian Giver became their third Gold record. Other releases followed and included May I Take a Giant Step, Special Delivery, The Train, When We Get Married and Reflictions In the Looking Glass. .

The 1910 Fruitgum Company was reunited in 2001 by the originators of the group, Frank Jeckell, and Mick Mansueto.

Summer Concert Series Schedule:

  • July 14: Byron Crawford Smith
  • July 21: Jersey Souls
  • July 28: Tim Gillis Band

Each concert will be held at Centennial Park on Springfield Avenue in New Providence, beginning at 6:30 p.m. for children and 7:30 p.m. for adults.
