Union County Man Charged With Murdering 2-Year-Old Daughter

Press release provided by the Union County Prosecutor's Office

An Elizabeth man has been arrested and charged with beating his 2-year-old daughter to death earlier this year, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Thursday.

Jorge Orozco, 30, is charged with first-degree murder and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child in connection with the death of Dayana Orozco. He was arrested Thursday in Elizabeth and lodged in Union County Jail, with bail set at $750,000 by state Superior Court Judge John S. Triarsi.

It was shortly before 8 p.m. on Sunday, February 2 when first responders rushed to an apartment on the 200 block of Westfield Avenue in Elizabeth to encounter the young victim, who was unresponsive.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, and an autopsy by the Union County Medical Examiner’s Office subsequently listed the girl’s manner of death as a homicide and the cause of death as blunt-force trauma.

The girl’s mother, 30-year-old Raquel Ramirez, was arrested in February and charged with second-degree aggravated assault and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child in connection with injuries her daughter sustained during the days leading up to her death.

An intensive joint investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force and the Elizabeth Police Department led to the charges against Orozco.

Anyone with information about this matter is urged to contact Union County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Johnny Ho at 908-403-8271.
