Calling All Musicians: Intergenerational Orchestra Open Houses

Three sessions planned this month at New Providence location.

The New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra will hold three open house rehearsals this month for musicians interested in playing classical music.

Rehearsals will be held this Thursday, Sept. 19 and 26 at the orchestra’s new home in the New Jersey Youth Symphony building , 570 Central Ave., New Providence. Those interested can play with the orchestra, which offers three different ensembles for musicians of different skill levels, or merely observe the rehearsal.

The New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra’s 20th anniversary season kicks off with a family concert in November, led by new artistic director and conductor Warren Cohen. The director is the conductor of Musica Nova, a professional orchestra in Scottsdale, Ariz., as well as the concert artist in conducting at Kean University.

Orchestra members have ranged in age from 5 to older than 85. Auditions are not needed to participate, just a love of music and a desire to play.
