Wheels & Wishes Spring

THURMAN MUNSON’S 1977 MERCEDES BENZ SLATED TO BE AUCTIONED OFF AT MAKE A WISH BENEFIT

 

On Saturday, April 14, 2012 a 1977 Mercedes Benz once owned by the late, great former NY Yankee, “The Captain,” Thurman Munson, will roll across the auction block at 2:00 p.m. at the Westfield Armory in Westfield, NJ.  Gifted to Mr. Munson by the New York Yankees in celebration and appreciation of his athleticism, this 450 SL is in pristine condition and detailed with New York Yankee pinstripes as well as Mr. Munson’s initials and baseball insignia.

Beginning at 12:00 p.m. at the Westfield Armory, The Wheels & Wishes event will kick off with a classic car auction.   All reserve prices on items to be auctioned off are set at the discretion of the consignor.  Both buyers and sellers are welcome to register for this event through the event website at: www.wheelsandwishes.com. Tickets are only $35 each, and $7 of each ticket purchased will be donated directly to the Make a Wish Foundation of New Jersey.  Included in the price of the ticket is admission to a classic car show that will begin at 10:00 a.m.

As if that’s not enough excitement for one day, iBid Auctions has offered another event that begins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2012.  The evening event is called “Wheels & Wishes and Delicious Dishes.”  The evening event will afford guests a preview of all items, sports memorabilia and donated items from local businesses to benefit The Make a Wish Foundation of New Jersey to be auctioned on Saturday, April 14, 2012. For further enjoyment, food pairings and tastings from over 25 of Westfield areas’ finest restaurants, pastry shops and caterers will be presented as well as music and dancing. All of this while surrounded by hundreds of beautiful exotic, collector and classic cars!  Tickets are $50 each, all inclusive, $10 of each ticket sold will be donated directly to the Make a Wish Foundation of New Jersey.   So come on out and help grant someone’s wish!

Thurman Munson was “The Captain from Canton,” a legendary and iconic baseball player whom earned his claim to fame as a catcher and captain of the New York Yankees during the 1970s.  He was tragically killed in a plane crash on August 16, 1977.  He was only 32 years old. 

The Make a Wish Foundation of New Jersey works to help grant the wishes of children with serious, life threatening illnesses.  They are a non-profit organization that is dependent solely upon donations from individuals for their charity.
