Enjoy an Enchanting Evening of Cello & Piano...

On Sunday, Jan. 22 at 4 p.m., cellist Samuel Magill and pianist Beth Levin will perform a fascinating program of unusual and rarely-heard music along with the masterful Cello Sonata of Debussy, with its journey to a mysterious musical world of Impressionism mixed with Asian musical styles.

They will perform a rarely played Adagio on Celtic Melodies by Bruch, a sentimental and touching tribute to Scotland. Andrew Rudin’s Sonata, written last year for Mr. Magill and Ms. Levin, is a brilliant contemporary work which promises to keep listeners at the edge of their seats with driving rhythms and constantly changing colors.

The performers will resurrect the American past with an extremely rare reading of a Sonata by Frederick Shepherd Converse, who was a part of the “Boston” group of composers in the late 19th and early 20th century.

These musical pioneers established the first native born school of American composition and together produced a distinguished body of work.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online. $16 advance sale, $20 ($18 for WAC members, $10 for students) at the door.
