A Place Where Men Can Go to Get Pampered

Roosters, a new men's grooming location in Summit, offers precision haircuts and shaves with hot steam towels, deep cleansing facial massages and moisturizing lotions.

Jody Frank wants to solve an issue he sees with men’s haircuts.

“In my due diligence before opening, I found that there really isn’t place for men to get haircuts,” Frank said. “You can go to a barber shop, but the service typically isn’t there, or go to a salon for women with tinfoil in their hair sitting next to you.”

Frank expects Roosters to give men and boys a new option that they can feel good about. The first of its kind in New Jersey, Frank just opened Roosters Mens Grooming Center, located on 545 Morris Avenue, across from Merck just off of River Road. Roosters is a growing national franchise that offers a unique barbershop experience for men and boys.

Customers can relax in oversized leather barber chairs and select from a variety of custom services including precision haircuts and shaves with hot steam towels, deep cleansing facial massages and moisturizing lotions. The center also provides straight-edge shaves.

“The idea to make hair cutting upscale but not quite salon quality,” Frank said. “So salon quality is 70 bucks, midrange, 18 bucks, and here around 35 bucks. So its a mid-market thing with a pampering atmosphere -- classic hair care services for men and boys, combined with an old fashioned barbershop experience.”

Investing in a local business was a longtime goal for Frank, a lifelong resident of Millburn who spent more than 25 years on Wall Street.  Frank selected Summit, he said, because of its central location to multiple towns and area businesses.

“The Short Hills Mall, Chatham, Madison, Summit downtown, Merck across the street. “It’s a fantastic location with great parking,” Frank said.

Frank said that he also has an atmospheric goal for the first of his four franchise locations: “I want to create more of an urban atmosphere in the shop so it would be more like a trip to New York City in Summit. The staff is diverse. That was part of the design,” Frank said.

Frank will be assisted by his son Aaron Frank. Charles Ortiz, a barber with more than 20 years experience, is the store manager. He leads Roosters’ team of barbers and stylists.

Frank said that he accepts inquiries about career opportunities for experienced barbers and stylists. These requests can be sent by email to jfrank@afransystems.com.
