Coppola's Ristorante & Pizzeria Crowned Best in New Providence

Patch readers have spoken and Coppola's was voted the best pizzeria in New Providence. Read on to hear from Sal Coppola, owner of the restaurant since 1986.

On Monday, we asked you to voice your opinion and . Well, the results are in and the winner is

Sal Coppola, who opened his restaurant in New Providence in 1986 and now runs it with his brother, Francesco, said “it feels good” to be voted the best pizzeria in the borough.

So what’s the key to his scrumptious pizza?

“Simple ingredients and we work with a passion, work with a love,” Coppola said. “It’s mostly family recipes but I believe, in order to have a good pizza, you have to use the best ingredients and the simple stuff.”

Coppola said he receives many of his ingredients from Roma Food in Piscataway and Restaurant Depot in Union.

“They have a lot of stuff imported from Italy, but they buy from all over the world,” Coppola said. “A lot of stuff we use here is from Italy.”

He said everything at Coppola’s is homemade, including the nearly 100 pizza pies made every day.

But every Friday, Coppola's makes about 120 additional pizza pies, which are delivered to the New Providence High School and Middle School, Allen W. Roberts Elementary School and Salt Brook Elementary School, which are sold in each school's cafeteria. “Kids love pizza from Coppola’s,” he said.

While Coppola’s wife, Elena, also works at the restaurant, many of his other employees are local residents, mostly from Summit.

Coppola said a lot of customers do say they have the best pizza around.

"It makes you feel good," he said. "It’s nice."
