Borough Announces Pick-Up Dates for Brush, Damaged Items

Regular garbage pick-up later this week, brush pick-up next Wednesday, and water-damaged item collection on Sept. 10 by registration. Plus, dumpster at DPW for large bulk items.

The Borough of New Providence issued a Code Red Alert on Tuesday evening, informing residents of the upcoming regular garbage pick-ups, collections and disposals of items damaged from Hurricane Irene, as well as brush pick-up.

The message is as follows:

"There will be regular garbage pick-up on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 1 and 2. For a limited time, a dumpster will be available at the yard for disposal of large bulk items damaged by flooding from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m., Monday through Friday, and Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon, excluding Labor Day, Sept. 5.

There will also be a special, one-time only, bulk pick-up for water damaged large items on Saturday, Sept. 10. You must register for this bulk pick-up by calling 908-665-1400 ext. 555 or by completing the special form on our website at www.newprov.org. If you have registered for this pick-up, you must have items at curbside by 6 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 10 for collection. Once the trucks have collected from your street, they will not return.

Any water-damaged items that can be placed in garbage bags should be put out with regular garbage. All metal items, appliances and computer equipment must be recycled by bringing them to the DPW yard for disposal.

The next curbside brush pick-up will be Wednesday, Sept. 7."
