Down the Shore: Beer Fest, Boat Race, Wine Tasting

What to do at the beach Labor Day weekend.

The Shore is — hey, even the and say so. With everyone trying to regain a sense of normalcy after  cleanup, what better way to mark the end of the summer season than a trip down the Shore?

EVENTS

Labor Day and beer: perfect together.  at 175 Oceanport Ave. in Oceanport will hold a , with a variety of microbrewers' wares and barbecue available from area restaurants. Cost is $3 for grandstand admission, $3 for parking and $10 for 10 2-ounce samples of a variety of beers.

in Point Pleasant Beach will sponsor a Friday for police, firefighters, EMTs and their families. Identification is required to access the Broadway, Parkway or Arnold Avenue beaches, and some concessions and attractions also will have discounts.

The , presented in conjuction with the Jersey Shore Running Club, will get under way at 8:30 a.m. Labor Day at the Great Lawn on Ocean Boulevard, Long Branch. It's not too late to register for the race, which will be run along the Long Branch beachfront; just bring $30 to the Great Lawn. The 5K, which features prizes and entertainment, will benefit CPC Behavioral Healthcare, a Monmouth County counseling center.

Come to Beach Haven Sunday and watch the sponsored by the East Coast Boat Racing Club of New Jersey. Garveys, ski boats and skiffs will race from noon to 4 p.m. on the bay, off Taylor Avenue. Races are free for all.

Tickets are still available for a concert at 7 p.m. Friday by country music star Toby Keith at located off exit 116 on the Garden State Parkway in Holmdel. Tickets, priced from $39 to $74, can be purchased here.

Saturday and Sunday at , 4265 Atlantic Ave., Wall. Hundreds of New Jersey wines will be featured alongside food, vendors, crafters and kids' activities. Admission is $25 a person, designated drivers are free. Call 732-919-3500 for more information.

NIGHTLIFE

 — Martell’s is the epitome of a beach bar with its tiki huts, island music and Caribbean-inspired drinks. 

Friday: Tiki Tea Fridays starts at noon with DJ Tempo. Mike Dalton Trio will perform at 2 p.m. Johnny Drama will perform at 9 p.m.

Saturday: Dr. Cheeko at 1 p.m. Peat Moss & Fertilizers at 9 p.m.

Sunday: Dr. Cheeko at 12:30 p.m. 3AM band at 8 p.m.

Labor Day: Triple Play at 2 p.m. Garden State Radio at 9 p.m.

Hemingway’s Cafe, 612 Blvd, Seaside Heights — Hemingway’s is a covering-all-the-bases type of place, offering a bustling dinner scene, nightly entertainment and a relaxing location near the beach.

Friday: Ladies Night with half-priced drinks, $2 Coors Light bottles and $3 bomb shots. DJ Milky Mike will be spinning. 

Saturday: Music by DJ Billy the Kid and DJ Teo. No cover before 10 p.m.

Labor Day: Ball Buster’s Dueling Pianos Comedy Show at 8 p.m. No cover.

Nardi’s, Tavern, 118 Street & the Blvd, LBI — Nardi’s is a popular spot among beach-goers with its laid-back atmosphere and prime location.

Friday: Happy hour kicks off at 3 p.m. with half-priced drink specials and appetizer menu. The Elvis Show is at 5 p.m., Steamroller Picnic at 9 p.m.

Saturday: Mike Byrne at 5 p.m.; Dead Poets at 10 p.m. Happy hour from 3 to 5 p.m. with half-priced drinks and appetizer menu.

Sunday: Dave Christopher at 5 p.m. Richie’s All-Stars at 9 p.m.

Labor Day: Weird Owl Karaoke at 5 p.m., 1970’s and '80’s night with Richie’s All-Stars starting at 9 p.m.

- You can’t avoid the reputation this ocean-side club has for fist-pumping parties and MTV’s Jersey stereotypes. But, D’Jais also is a must-do for many for its wild parties.

Friday: Happy Hour with the buffet and Coors Light prize wheel, no cover. Music by DJ Charlie Cavallo & DJ Mike Vecchia.

Saturday: Kipples Beach Party from 3 to 8 p.m. with $3 Bud Lights, $10 buckets of rocks shot specials and music by DJ Robbie O. Bonsolid’s The Mix with John Farruggio, Glenn Friscia and The Riddler at 9 p.m.

Sunday: Off the Beach Happy Hour from 3 to 8 p.m. with DJ Charlie Cavallo. Chris Moody at 9 p.m. and late-night with Joe Giorgio & Kipples.

Labor Day: Labor Day “Survivor Party” from noon to 2 p.m. Happy hour from 3 to 8 p.m. and “In the Biz” specials from 5 p.m. to 2a.m.  

Beachcomber, 100 Ocean Terrace, Seaside Heights — A popular spot among the late-night partiers, Beachcomber has nightly drink specials and the great cover bands.

Friday: Live music with Rumor Has It at 10 p.m.

Saturday: Steve Brown performs at 3 p.m.; Shorty Long at 10:30 p.m.

Sunday: Frankie and The Burn at 4 p.m. Temporary Grace at 10p.m.

Labor Day: Juggling Suns at 10 p.m.

Joe Pop’s, 2002 Long Beach Blvd, Ship Bottom — Joe Pop’s is one of the most popular shore bars and restaurants, with some of the biggest parties in New Jersey.

Friday: $5 drink specials every hour starting at 9 p.m. Screaming Broccoli will be performing live.

Saturday: The party continues with one of the premiere cover bands at the shore, The Benjamins. 

Sunday: The Nerds will perform. Half-priced drinks and drafts all night, no cover.
