Five Things You Need to Know This Weekend

No school for Berkeley Heights public schools today, plus the Cat in the Hat is nearby.

It's Friday -- which means it's time to gas up the car (ouch!) for the long Memorial Day weekend. Weather you're throwing a few steaks on the barbie or singing along to Beach Baby while headed down the shore, be sure to be safe and have a patchy weekend!

With that in mind, here are five things to help you out today.

1. There will be a Memorial Day parade in Berkeley Heights Monday: The parade is scheduled to begin at 10:00am on Snyder Avenue. Don't forget to wave your flags and give a wave and a shout of thanks  to the veterans as they walk by.

2. Do you like my hat? Barnes and Noble of Springfield is hosting a "The Cat in the Hat Costume Storytime."  This event will take place Saturday, May 28th at 11:00am. Dr Seuss's most beloved character will be visiting Storytime, so bring your camera and enjoy some wonderful stories.  The store is located at 24o Route 22 West, Springfield, NJ.  For more information, visit www.barnesandnoble.com or call 973-376-8544.

3. Gov. Livingston Track & Field: Be sure to root, root, root for the home team as the Highlanders boys' and girls' track and field teams aim for state glory. Action takes place at 4:00pm at South Plainfield High School's Frank Jost field.

4. Take me out to the ball game! You can sing your heart out and cheer for the GL varsity baseball team as they host Rumson in the state sectional quarterfinals. First pitch is set for 2:00pm.

5. I love a parade! And so can you, at the The New Providence Memorial Day Parade will takes place Monday starting at 10:00am.  The start point for the parade will be Springfield Avenue & Central (or around there).
