Five Things You Need to Know This Weekend

From polka to the Wizard, there's a lot to do in our area.

The summer is flying by, so now is the time to make plans for the weekend, and Patch has a few ideas.

1. Kirtan Chanting With Drumming: for something different, there will be a Kirtan Chanting with Drumming class offered Friday 8/5. The class will be from 7:00-8:30pm and the cost if $15.00/adult.  There will be instruments for you to play, as you send your good vibrations out into the universe.  All are welcome.

2. 8th annual Peace Arts Fair Sunday. In memory of Peace and community activist Leigh Davis. the show features local artists, poets, musicians, speakers: Hazy Jane, The Tee Wee, Nick Conte, Spook Handy, The Solidarity Singers, Mike Kirk, Halima the Henna Lady, The Striped Bananas, Larry Hamm (Peoples Organization for Progress), Better Blue (John Kennedy of Steeel Woool), Rob Romano, You're Beat! It's from Noon to 7:00pm at Eastman Center Plaza Clock Park in Cranford.

3. Special performance at Macculloch Hall Historical Museum by family descendent Adriane Post, the great-granddaughter of Dorothea Miller Post, who lived at Macculloch Hall. Ms. Miller was born at the family home in 1878 and lived there until she died in 1947.  She was the last family member to live at Macculloch Hall.  Adriane Post performs on the violin that Dolly, as Dorothea was known, received as a gift from her brother. The event begins at 4:00pm at 45 Macculloch Ave., Morristown.

4. The Summit Playhouse presents The Wizard Of Oz. Saturday, 8/6, is the last production and the curtain rises at 7:30pm. There will also be a matinee show 08/07 at 3:00pm. This theater is kid friendly, non-smoking and wheelchair accessible.  This show is recommended for ages 5 and older. Tickets are $15.00 and can be obtained at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/184056

5. Friday Night Polka. Jimmy Sturr and his Orchestra will perform a polka concert Friday evening, 8/5, at 7:30pm. This event will take place at the Raymond Wood Bauer Promenade, 400 N. Wood Avenue, Linden. For more information, please call 908-474-8600.  This event is free and all are welcome.
