Five Things You Need to Know Today, August 20th

Welcome to another weekend -- one of the final ones of the summer.

Here are five things that could be added to your planner.

1. Laura Hill Jazz Trio. Accomplished jazz vocalist Laura Hull returns to Ponte Vecchio with her trio for an evening of American popular songs, jazz standards and obscure gems. No cover charge. Reservations recommended: 908-464-4424. The location is the Best Western Inn, 535 Central ave., New Providence.

2. The Galeria West Art Gallery will present ALI BELLO & SWEET WIRE PROJECT QUARTET. This is an Evening of Gypsy Jazz, Bossa Nova, Boleros & More, with this acclaimed Venezuelan violinist. Tickets are $15 adult / $10 child. 3. Composting 101. Learn to recycle that organic matter that might normally go to waste and use it to grow new plants. This class is designed for adults and will be led by the Arboretum’s Environmental Educator, Erica Fisher. She has had experience with composting using worm bins and outdoor bins and has led many classes in the past.
You will have the chance to purchase a composting bin at the class. the class is located at , 324 Forest Dr S, Short Hills.

4. The Morris Museum hosts Super Science Saturdays, every week 12:00 - 2:00pm. This event is for ages 5 and up. Participants and their families are invited to join in the fun with hands-on science workshops.  The scientific method will be introduced to the children through the science experiments they will conduct.  This is free for members, $3 plus child museum admission for  non-members.  For more information, please visit www.morrismuseum.org.  All are welcome. 5. Farm to Table Event to Benefit Children's Specialized Hospital. An exeptional culinary experience and wine tasting event is taking place on Saturday, September 24, 2011 from 7:00-11:00pm at a private residence in Scotch Plains (address given at time of ticket purchase). This charitable event is to benefit The Children's Specialized Hospital Foundation. Ticket price is $150 per person.  Tickets can also be purchased by cash or check.  Call Alicia Winters at 908-477-0390 for more information or email philanthropyforfoodies@yahoo.com.

An email confirmation will be sent to confirm the amount of tickets purchased.  No actual ticket is needed, there will be a list at the door. Names will be added to this list as the tickets are sold.  Tickets sold on first come first serve basis.  All are welcome.
