Five Things You Need to Know Today, August 2nd

County hosts National Night Out at Meisel Park in Springfield.

Here are five things you need to know today, August 2nd. 

1. Buzzing for Business: The Springfield Barnes & Noble is hosting Author Discussion with author/speaker Sanford Ashley.  The topic of discussion will be "How to Close Four Types of Decision Makers".  For more information, visit www.barnesandnoble.com or call 973-376-8544. The event will be held at the Barnes & Noble located on rt. 22 in Springfield.

2. Read With the Kids: The Mountainside Public Library presents Preschool Story & Craft today from 2:00-2:45pm. this is the final day of this summer event, which is for children ages 3, 4 and 5.  All are welcome.

3. Union County Hosts National Night Out: The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders is hosting National Night Out at Union County’s Meisel Park in Springfield tonight. The free festivities begin at 6:00pm and continue with an outdoor screening of the popular Disney movie “G-Force” at dusk.

Free activities for children at Union County National Night Out include inflatable rides, “Bubblemania” bubble-blowing fun, Bingo, crafts, and more.  The Union County’s Bomb Squad, SWAT team, and K-9 Unit will stage live demonstrations, and there will be a hands-on exhibit of two dozen police and emergency vehicles along with the county’s Fire Safety Trailer.

A raffle is also included in the event, featuring Somerset Patriots tickets, Staples gift cards, bike helmets, Flip cams, and more.

Visitors are welcome to bring picnics. An ice cream vendor will also be on site. Free snacks are available courtesy of ShopRite, and there will be free hotdogs and bottled water courtesy of Target.

The screening of G-Force, a G-rated animated comedy, will begin at 9:00 p.m.  All are welcome.

4. Scotch Plains Celebrates National Night Out: The Scotch Plains Cultural Arts Committee presents the 2011 Village Green Summer Concert Series. This evening is National Night Out - The Broadcasters will be performing beginning at 7:00pm. This concert will take place at Alan M. Augustine Park 430 Park Ave, Scotch Plains. All are welcome.

5. Catch a Free Movie With the Family: The Mountainside Public Library will present  FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT this evening. The movie will begin at 6:30pm and parents must stay with their children at all times. The library is located in Constitution Plaza in Mountainside.
