Five Things You Need to Know Today, July 13th

Beatles fans and Fleetwood Mac aficionados, this is your lucky night.

Today is July 13th, and with the women's World Cup team advancing to the semifinal round of the most important soccer tournament in the world, it's interesting to note that the first World Cup (mens) began on this date in Uruguay back in 1930. The women's tournament began sixty-one years later in 1991 and is held every four years.

This was also the date back in 1977 when all of New York City went dark. The blackout created a setting for rioting and looting in one of the worst periods in the history of the world's largest city.

On a happier note, there are several big names celebrating birthdays, including American actor Harrison Ford (1942), and English actor Patrick Stewart (1940).
