Five Things You Need to Know Today, July 1st

Thrift sale, exhibit on the list.

It's a new month, and it just happens to be the day which kicks off the long-awaited 4th of July weekend. Remember when we were all complaining about the frigid weather in mid-January?

On this day in history, England banned smoking in England in all public indoor spaces in 2007.  In 1984, the PG-13 rating was introduced to moviegoers. And in 1987 all-sports radio station WFAN was launched in New York.

Birthdays today include actress Liv Tyler (1977) and actor Dan Ackroyd (1952). today would have also marked the 49th birthday of Princess Diana, who died in 1997.
