Five Things You Need To Know Today: July 24

Today, the Summit Farmers Market will be open and the Summit Festival of Fine Arts and Crafts will take over Summit Downtown.

1. The Summit Farmers Market will be open today from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Maple Street and Deforest Avenue.

2. The Summit Festival of Fine Arts and Crafts will take place in Summit Downtown from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today. The upscale event will be outdoors along Union Place, Bank Street and Beechwood Road. Participating exhibitors will include fine artists, photographers, glassmakers, woodworkers, jewelers, fiber artists, potters, and more. A variety of classical, jazz and contemporary music will also be performed in front of the train station on Union Place. This event is free and open to the public. Parking is limited, but trains are available to Summit throughout the day.

3. On Monday, the New Providence Memorial Library will screen the kids' movie, "Despicable Me," at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. All are welcome.

4. The borough council will meet on Monday at 7 p.m. in the Municipal Center.

5. On Monday, Summit Medical Group will host a "Be Red Cross Ready" program from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The presentation will teach attendees how to be prepared in the event of an emergency, how to use basic livesaving skills and first aid skills.
