Five Things You Need to Know Today, July 2nd

Ice Cream and science combine for a fun day.

  1. The Shopping Rolls On Tomorrow: The Best Friend Thrift Shop will have its annual 60% sale during the 4th of July Holiday.  The sale will continue through Saturday, July 9, 2011. The store will be closed Saturday, July 2, 2011 in observance of the holiday.  Regular business hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  All furniture will be 50% off.  There will be a few exceptions to the sale.
  2. July is National Ice Cream Month. Celebrate with a stop at the winner, Scoops in Scotch Plains or local winners in Garwood,  in Clark, and don't forget Zita's in New Providence. Patches' Donna Mulvihill reminds everyone you can get real, old fashioned, hand-cranked ice cream at Independence Day celebrations this weekend at  on Saturday and  on Sunday. If you make your own, many Friendly's ice cream stores have a 2 gallons for $7.00 sale going on. Now that could work for the entire family!!
  3. Super Science Saturdays: The Morris Museum hosts Super Science Saturdays every week 12:00 - 2:00pm. This event is for ages 5 and up. Participants and their families are invited to join in the fun with hands-on science workshops. The scientific method will be introduced to the children through the science experiments they will conduct. This is free for members, $3 plus child museum admission for  non-members.  For more information, please visit www.morrismuseum.org. All are welcome.
  4. Firework Display in Mountainside: Make plans to join area residents for the annual Fireworks Show in Mountainside. The event will take place at dusk on Monday July 4th at the Our Lady of Lourdes Church baseball field.
