Five Things You Need to Know Today, May 23

Variety sale, midday movies and more for your Monday.

Another week is upon us -- and of course -- there is always plenty to do. 

Here are just a few things to keep in mind for your busy Monday.

1. Brown Bag Movie in Mountainside. The Mountainside Public Library will present Brown Bag Movies on Mondays. Today's movie will be Air Force. Bring your brown bag lunch and take in a free movie.  Pick up fliers with quick plot summaries next time you visit the library.  All movies start at 12 noon. 2. Summit Playhouse's Kaleidoscope Theatre for Youth announces auditions for their summer production of Wizard of Oz.  Director Lindsay Maron seeks strong singers, dancers and actors ages 6-20.  Audition dates May 23rd & 24th.  Performances run from July 29th-August 7th.  For more information and to sign up for an audition, please visit www.summitplayhouse.org. 3. Magic at the Library! Families with children of all ages will enjoy a mix of magic and comedy performed by professional  magician Mark Zavharia at the Berkeley Heights Public Library tonight May 23, from 6:30 – 7:15 PM.

This  “Mysteries of the Library” is an interactive magic show with lots of audience participation including  a kazoo lesson and group concert.   No sign up is required. The Library is located at 290 Plainfield Avenue.  For further information about the programs, visit the library website at www.bhplnj.org.  

4. Variety Sale at Runnells: Today, the Volunteers Guild of RUNNELLS Specialized Hospital of Union County will have a wide selection of items including: leather waist packs and wallets; children’s books; flashlights, sunglasses and seasonal merchandise.

This eclectic product sale will feature one and two dollar specials. The sale will be held in the facility’s multi-purpose room, 40 Watchung Way, Berkeley Heights from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Visa, MasterCard and Discover will be accepted as well as cash.

The public is invited to attend RUNNELLS Specialized Hospital product sales.  A percentage of all purchases made at these sales is credited to the Volunteers Guild.

Funds raised are used to enrich the lives of residents and patients by obtaining items that may include prizes for bingo games and paying for entertainment. The Guild, which makes product sales possible, also sponsors a holiday party/gift distribution in cooperation with the Berkeley Heights Lions Club.

5. Gov. Livingston Spring Band Concert set for Tuesday evening. The Spring Concert will be on May 24th at Governor Livingston High School.  This event will start at 7:30pm in the main auditorium.  All are welcome.
