Golfers Raise $92K For Children’s Hospital Outpatient Center

Next Children's Specialized Hospital Foundation event is Golf Invitational, set for July 17 in Lakewood.

Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation hosted their 23rd annual Golf Classic on Monday, June 11 at MontclairGolf Club in West Orange.

A total of 141 golfers joined together to raise $92,000 for , the largest pediatric rehabilitation hospital in the United States, treating more than 19,000 children with specialized rehabilitative care each year. 

The proceeds from this year’s Golf Classic will benefit Children’s Specialized Hospital’s newest outpatient center, making it the tenth site in New Jersey, scheduled to open in Newark in the summer of 2013. The outpatient center will offer physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, psychology as well as physicians services and allow hundreds of families to receive services closer to home.

Golf Classic Co-Chair John M. Moore, of Willis, emphasized the positive impact the facility in Newark will have on the community.

“It is crucial for children with special needs to have access to care, and we are proud to bring these services closer to home for kids in Newark,” said Moore. “Nothing is more rewarding than having the opportunity to help the many children that Children’s Specialized serves.”

Children’s Specialized Hospital’s services include comprehensive care for kids with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries and dysfunction, autism, ADHD, premature birth, developmental delays, and life-changing illnesses.

The Golf Classic included golf, brunch, silent and live auctions, cocktails, and dinner, at which golf prizes were awarded. Participants also had the opportunity to purchase a raffle ticket, with a chance to win an iPad3 and accessories.

Golf Classic Co-Chair Barry M. Gross, of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, praised Children’s Specialized Hospital's mission.

“It's very rewarding to volunteer time to Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation,” said Gross. “This is a highly professional and well-run organization that supports a very worthwhile cause.”

This year’s major sponsors at the Classic included Qualcare, Johnson & Johnson, Willis, Paul Miller, L'Oreal, PSEG,Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Amy Mansue, and Marquis Wealth Advisors LLC. Sponsors also included Fromkin Brothers, Inc., Dr. Alex Giaquinto, RWJ – Rahway, and C.R. Bard. 

The Foundation will host another golf event, the Golf Invitational, Tuesday, July 17 at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Lakewood.  Registration and sponsorship opportunities are available.
