New Providence Boy Dies After Fall from Apartment Building Window

Stamford, CT Police say the Criminal Investigations Bureau will investigate the fall of 8-year-old Alex Wu, a New Providence resident, who died from his injuries on Saturday night.

A New Providence boy tragically died on Saturday night from injuries sustained after a six-story fall from a Connecticut apartment building window. 

Alex Wu, an 8-year-old student at , was reportedly visiting relatives with his family at Rippowam Manor, a 10-story apartment building located in Stamford, CT. 

Salt Brook Elementary School sent a letter to all parents on Monday about Alex's death, asking parents to discuss this tragedy with their children and informing parents that counselors will be at the school each day until Wednesday, the last day of school, to help students cope with the loss of their classmate.

Stamford Police say at approximately 7:30 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to reports of a child falling from the sixth floor of the apartment building. When officers arrived on scene, they found Wu unconscious. He was transported to Stamford Hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained in the fall.

Police said witness statements described the boy playing with his sister in a hallway when he pushed against a window screen that gave way. Authorities also confirmed initial investigations point to this incident being a tragic accident.

Lt. Diedrich Hohn said the Bureau of Criminal Investigations would be handling the case.
