Sept. 11 Commemoration Services This Weekend

A rundown of the events taking place in Union County.

Towns throughout New Jersey are holding ceremonies to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks this weekend. Here is a list of events taking place in Union County: 

Berkeley Heights

  • Sunday, 8:30 a.m., Memorial Park on Park Avenue.

Clark

  • Saturday, 9:15 a.m., James Nelson Park on Broadway. 

Cranford

  • Sunday, 4 p.m., Sept. 11 monument on Springfield Avenue, adjacent to the Municipal Building. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held at First Presbyterian Church, also on Springfield Avenue.

Garwood

  • Sunday, 6 p.m. at Borough Hall on South Avenue.

Mountainside

  • Sunday, 1 p.m., Echo Lake Park, on Springfield Avenue or Mill Lane. 

New Providence

  • Saturday, 10 a.m., Centennial Park on Elkwood Avenue.

Scotch Plains-Fanwood

  • Sunday, 6 p.m., Alan M. Augustine Village Green on Park Avenue.

Springfield

  • Saturday, 10 a.m., Patriot Park/Community Gardens on Wabeno Avenue and Mountain Avenue. 

Summit

  • Sunday, 8:15 a.m., Village Green 

Westfield

  • Saturday, 8 p.m., Westfield Presbyterian Church, the Westfield Symphony Orchestra performs a special 10th Anniversary Commemoration Concert.
  • Sunday, 8 a.m., Memorial Park.
  • Sunday, 1 p.m., town-wide, "moment of remembrance."
  • Sunday, 6 p.m., Memorial Park,  interfaith commemoration service and candlelight tribute.

County-wide

  • Sunday, 11:30 a.m., Echo Lake Park, firefighter memorial service.
  • Sunday, 1 p.m., Echo Lake Park, service hosted by Union County freeholders (same as Mountainside ceremony).
  • Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Echo Lake Park, blood drive taking place near the Sept. 11 memorial.
