The Week Ahead: School Budget Discussion, Movies, Career Workshop

Plus, the Old Guard of Summit will meet on Tuesday, while The Provident Bank is hosting a fund-raising drive to benefit the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.

1. The will meet Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the / Media Center. The board will discuss the proposed 2012/2013 school budget, factoring in the , before sending the budget to the County Superintendent for approval. All are welcome to attend.

2. The will screen the movie "Contagion" (2011) Rated PG-13, on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., and "Turtles Can Fly" (2004) Rated PG-13, at 7 p.m. For more information, visit newprovidencelibrary.org.

3. The Old Guard of Summit will host their weekly meeting on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. The meeting will feature a slide presentation called "The Arc's Mission and 'Green Sports' Store for Recycled Sports Equipment" by Frank X. Caragher, Executive Director of The Arc of Union County. The guard consists of Summit area men over 50 years of age who meet every Tuesday morning. 4. and Long Hill Chapel are hosting a 10-week workshop called Career Directions, which is intended for those who are currently out of work, those considering a career change and anyone just entering the job market. This week's seminar session, which will be held on Wednesday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, is called "Getting the Offer - Thank-You Note; Effective Follow-up Techniques." 5. The Provident Bank is once again hosting a “Deposit $1 of Hope” fund-raising drive at each of its branches to benefit the Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ).  The fundraiser began Monday, February 13, 2012 and will run through Monday, April 2, 2012. For every dollar contributed to the CFBNJ, the organization distributes $9.59 worth of food and groceries to local food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers and homeless shelters.
