Video: 'Patch Takes It Off,' The Beginning

Registering for the Gran Fondo marks the start of our summer adventure.

Aug. 28, 2011. Less than two months away. Before you know it, the kids will be heading back to school. But, before then, about 2,000 riders will brave the hills of Morris County in 43, 63 and 103-mile circuits.

I will be one of those riders. On Wednesday, June 29, I signed up for the 63-mile "Medio Fondo," as part of . But, this is not just about the ride. It's about my life, and how I want to live it. Do I want to struggle with smoking, with being overweight, with being tired when I shouldn't be? Should I–for that matter, should anyone–need to struggle when they don't have to?

There is a wealth of opportunities to get in shape here in Morristown. This summer, in "Patch Takes It Off," Morristown Patch will explore those opportunities, leading to the ultimate: the big ride, the Gran Fondo.

But, even after Aug. 28, the journey does not end. Why should it? So, consider "Patch Takes It Off" not just a summer adventure, but the start of a lifetime adventure. We hope you enjoy the journey as much as we intend to.

You can even participate in the adventure with us.
