New Providence Council Candidate's Corner: Gary Kapner

Gary Kapner for New Providence Borough On Facebook www.facebook.com/AlanLesnewichAndGaryKapnerforNPBC

My name is Gary Kapner, and I am excited to be running for New
Providence Borough Council.

As a proud 20-year resident of New Providence I care deeply about
the growth of our community, safe neighborhoods and the high standards of essential services that we all need.  We have a top rated school district within New Jersey, along with the #1 rated High School within the State. We have a triple A credit rating, and New Providence is listed as one of the top 20 towns to live in New Jersey.  I’m convinced that we can build on this success to take New Providence to the next level.  We need people with new ideas, who are focused on the present but with a vision for the future. I have the ideas, vision, and expertise to produce positive results and impact within our town.

One of the key issues we face is growth. We need to work hard to grow our community in a responsible way, a way that insures that we maintain our small town charm and identity.  I have local government experience,  business experience, and I know how to the bring people together to get the job done.

I also serve on the Borough’s Economic Development Committee, with a specific focus to lower the commercial vacancy rate by working to attract new businesses to New Providence.  I worked with other members of the community to collect the needed signatures in order to get the liquor license referendum on the ballot last November.

I’m the owner along with my wife Rachel, of Creative Wallcoverings and Interiors, a second generation family business that has been based in New Providence for 27 years.  My economic vision is based upon my direct experience and business perspective from that of managing a local business.

I am a past President and a founding member of the New Providence Business Professional Association.  In light of significant budget cuts, the NPBPA was successful in restoring funding to events like the Fourth of July fireworks, the summer concert, the street fair, and the farmers market through their specific sponsorship drive; further linking our local businesses with our community at large.  I am also a board member of the Suburban Chamber of Commerce and an active member and a Board Member of the New Providence Lions Club.

From my business and professional resume, and my demonstrated
involvement within our current governing body and economic framework, I will further collaborate with our current Borough Council to help manage taxes effectively, increase our ratables, manage the
growth of our community, improve our shopping district, and improve active and passive recreational opportunities for all ages.

I need your help to get the job done, please vote for me.

I’m looking forward to serving as your next councilman.
