Berkeley Heights Boy Earns Eagle Scout Award

Matthew Buthe recognized last week at the United Methodist Church in New Providence.

Matthew Buthe, of Boy Scout Troop 368 of Berkeley Heights, received his Eagle Scout award at his Eagle Scout Court of Honor last Sunday. 

The Eagle Scout Court of Honor was held at the United Methodist Church in New Providence. Boy Scouts, parents, leaders, family and Berkeley Heights Mayor Joe Bruno celebrated Buthe's hard work.

Buthe officially became an Eagle Scout on Aug. 21 at his Board of Review conducted by Boy Scout Troop 368 and the Patriots’ Path Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Some of the merit badges Buthe earned are backpacking, citizenship in the nation to scuba diving. High adventure trips that Buthe have participated are a two-week backpacking trip at the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico in the lower range of the Colorado Rockies and a week-long sailing expedition around the Bahamas Islands where Scouts snorkeled and SCUBA dived.

Buthe planned and developed an Eagle Scout leadership project at the United Methodist Church in New Providence with more than 100 hours of work.
