Mountainside Resident Susan Kisslan Dies at 87

Also lived in Linden, Toms River and Sayreville.

Susan Kisslan, 87, of Mountainside passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Brighton Gardens with her daughter, Donna and son-in-law, Steve, at her side.  

Susan was born in Stretava, Czechoslovakia, came to the U.S. in 1949 settling in Linden, and had lived in Toms River, Sayreville and Freehold until moving to Mountainside in 2007.  Susan was a superb homemaker, excellent cook and baker who held various jobs throughout her life.    

She was a former member of the Slovak Rosary Society at Holy Family Church in Linden and the Catholic Women at Sacred Heart Church of South Amboy.   She also had participated in activities at the Sayreville Senior Center and the Holiday Heights Senior Citizen Center of Toms River.

Susan was predeceased by her husband, Michael Kisslan in 1997; one brother and two sisters.  She is survived by two daughters, Suzanne Laskodi and her husband, James of Union, KY and Donna Chapman and her husband, Steven, of Freehold Township; four grandchildren, Jessica Olsen and her husband, Kevin, James Laskodi, Amanda  Schuerg and Jennifer Chapman; and a great grandson, Ryan Olsen.

Visitation will be held at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Friday, January 17, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 9:00 AM for the procession to St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township,  for her  10:00 AM Funeral Mass.   Interment to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery and Mausoleum, Toms River.
