Berkeley Heights Driver, 81, Hurt in Warren Collision

Motorist issued summonses for careless driving, failure to keep right.

An 81-year-old Berkeley Heights woman was hospitalized after a collision in Warren Saturday morning. 

Warren police said the crash, which took place shortly before 10 a.m., happened on Hillcrest Road south of Emerson Lane when Joan M. Austra, 81, of Bridgewater, traveling north, allegedly crossed into the southbound lane.

Police reported that Austra's vehicle struck the vehicle driven by Jose Azofeifa, 36, of Bridgewater.  

The police report said that they, the Warren Township Fire Department and First Aid Squad, the Berkeley Heights First Aid Squad and Mercy 6 paramedics responded to the accident scene, before the Mercy 6 unit transported Austra to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center. 

Azofeifa was brought to Overlook Hospital, according to the police report. Dinardo Towing removed both vehicles from the road, police said.

The police report said that the Berkeley Heights woman was issued summonses for careless driving, failure to keep right and failure to exhibit documents.
