Berkeley Heights Police Blotter: Criminal Mischief, Fraud, Shoplifting

The following information was supplied by the Berkeley Heights Police Department. Any arrest information does not indicate a conviction.

June 20

Ptl. Jeanne-Marie Mocarski investigated a report of criminal mischief at   The investigation revealed that a 2005 Mercury had sustained damage consisting of two broken mirrors and two flat tires during the overnight hours.  The matter has been referred to the Investigations Division.

Ptl. Jason Massimino investigated a report of fraud.  The victim reported that she had been contacted via telephone from someone purporting to be her grandson and that he needed money while in Ecuador.  The victim then wired $3,300 to an account and later checked with her bank, at which time she was informed that the transaction was fraudulent.  The matter has been referred to the Investigations Division.

June 26

At 3:30 p.m., Sgt. William Ives arrested Craig Thomas, 49, of Berkeley Heights.  Sgt. Ives responded to the area of Kings Supermarket on Springfield Avenue after receiving a report of shoplifting.  Thomas was located in another business after being followed by two employees of Kings to that location.  Thomas was placed under arrest after it was determined that he had stolen seafood items valued at $90.11.  He was brought to police headquarters, processed and charged with shoplifting.  Thomas was then released and given a date to appear in Berkeley Heights Municipal Court.
