Berkeley Heights Police Blotter for the Week Ending April 17

Shoplifting, theft, DWI keep authorities busy.

Here's the latest police blotter from Berkeley Heights for the week ending April 17. 

On Sunday, April 10, 2011, at 7:33 pm, Sgt. William Ives investigated a reported shoplifting which occurred at the Shop and Stop Supermarket on Springfield Avenue.  The victim indicated that a white female in her mid-twenties and a Hispanic male in his thirties attempted to exit the store with merchandise under their jackets.  When confronted, the merchandise, which turned out to be $164.22 worth of baby formula, was dropped on the floor, at which time both parties ran from the store. The suspects fled the scene in a white Honda towards Springfield Avenue.  The matter has been referred to the Investigations Division.

On Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 12:46 am, Ptl. Ron DeSimoni arrested Latisha Green, 29, of Irvington.  Green was the operator of a 1994 Chrysler that Ptl. DeSimoni observed driving erratically on Plainfield Avenue.  Upon stopping her, it was determined that she was intoxicated at which time she was placed under arrest.  A search of her purse revealed small 5 bags of marijuana.  Green was brought to police headquarters, processed and charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, failure to maintain lane and careless driving.  She was given a court date to appear in Berkeley Heights Municipal Court and released into the custody of a friend.

On Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 1:44 pm, Ptl. Ed Ammerlaan responded to the Shop and Stop Supermarket to investigate a report of a theft.  The victim reported that while shopping someone had removed her wallet from her purse which was in the shopping cart.  The wallet contained $80.00 cash and various credit cards.  Approximately 1 hour later, New Providence Police received a report of an individual attempting to use the stolen cards in their town.  The matter is currently under investigation by both police departments.      

On Sunday, April 17, 2011 at 11:23 pm, Ptl. William Fettes arrested Dorian Marengo, 33, of Plainfield.  Marengo was the operator of a 2001 Jeep and was stopped when a computer check revealed that he held an outstanding warrant in the amount of $800.00 out of South Plainfield.  Marengo was brought to police headquarters, processed and released after posting bail.
