Berkeley Heights Police Blotter: March 18 - 21

Police recently handled incidents of intoxicated driving, criminal mischief at Berkeley Swim Club and a theft of a bicycle from Columbia Middle School.

On Sunday, March 18, 2012 at 2:38 a.m., Ptl. William Fettes arrested Maynor Alberto Sequeira Vega, 32, of Auburn, WA. Vega was the operator of a 2001 Suzuki station wagon, stopped for motor vehicle violations on Mountain Avenue.  A subsequent investigation revealed that Vega was intoxicated, at which time he was brought to police headquarters, processed and charged with speeding, careless driving, driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.  Vega was given a court date to appear in and released into the custody of a friend. 

On Monday, March 19, 2012 at 8:34 a.m., Ptl. Michael Nelson investigated a report of criminal mischief at the .  Graffiti and obscenities were spray painted on the front entrance of the club.  The vandalism took place over the weekend.  The matter has been referred to the Investigations Division.

On Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 3:21 p.m., Ptl. Michael Nelson investigated a reported theft.  The victim reported that he had left his bicycle, valued at approximately $100, parked in the bike rack at on Plainfield Avenue on March 20, 2012 at 5:45 p.m.  The following morning, he returned to discover his bicycle missing.
