Berkeley Heights Police Blotter: Traffic Stop Leads to DWI Arrest

The following information was provided by the Berkeley Heights Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

April 9

At 2:43 p.m., Detective Patrick Moran arrested Jay Bauman, 50, of South
Euclid, Ohio. Moran responded to the area of Middle Way after receiving a report from New Providence Police of a suspicious vehicle. A registration check revealed the owner of the vehicle to be wanted out of Cleveland, Ohio for Aggravated Menacing and weapons offenses. When the owner of the vehicle returned to the area, he was identified and placed under arrest. Bauman was brought to police headquarters, processed and then turned over to the Union
County Sheriff’s Department. He was lodged in the Union County Jail, pending extradition to Ohio.

At 2:54 a.m., Patrolman Ron DeSimoni arrested Bong Chang, 51, of Watchung. Chang was the operator of a 2005 Volvo and was stopped for motor vehicle violations. Further investigation revealed Chang to be intoxicated, at which time he was brought to police headquarters and processed. Chang was charged with DWI, careless driving, failure to maintain lane, driving while suspended and being an unlicensed driver. Chang was given a date to appear in Berkeley Heights Municipal Court and released into the custody of a friend.
