Berkeley Heights Police Make Drug Arrest on Mountain Avenue

The following information was provided by the Berkeley Heights Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

A report of a suspicious person led to a drug arrest Thursday, according to Berkeley Heights Police.

On April 25, at 12:33 a.m., Berkeley Heights Police officers responded to the area of Mountain Avenue near Oak Ridge Drive on a report of a suspicious person.

Patrolman Ed Gaffney arrived and came in contact with a suspect identified as Jesus E. Diaz, 25, of Scotch Plains. A computer check revealed that Diaz held
outstanding warrants out of Berkeley Heights and Scotch Plains totaling $1,330 and a no bail warrant out of Somerset County for drug offenses.

During the course of the investigation, a search of Diaz turned up four hypodermic needles, and several empty wax folds containing suspected heroin residue. Diaz was transported to police headquarters and was processed and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Diaz was given a court date and released into the custody of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department on their warrants.
