Essex County Man Charged With Stealing $180,000 From 96-year-old Springfield Woman, Officials Say

According to a press release from the Union County Prosecutor's Office, Denis Marvin Solis, 54, of West Orange has been charged with stealing approximately $180,000 from a 96-year-old Springfield woman.

In an investigation lead by the Special Prosecutions Unit, it was discovered that since February 2010, Solis, the principal of a local landscaping company, had been stealing from the elderly woman by having her write checks exceeding the value of work conducted by his company.

The press release also states that Solis allegedly had the victim pay for a project multiple times by saying she had not yet paid for it and even accepted checks for work his company never did.

His bail is set at $75,000.
