Fanwood Accident Victim Dies From Injuries

Monica G. Reiss, 59, was reportedly crossing Midway Avenue at the time of the Tuesday evening collision.

The Fanwood woman Tuesday night succumbed to her injuries early Wednesday morning, Fanwood Police Chief Richard Trigo said in a telephone interview.

Monica G. Reiss, 59, of Linda Place, died at 3:30 a.m. at University Hospital in Newark, after sustaining head trauma and multiple injuries in the collision, Trigo said. She was airlifted to the hospital by a State Police Helicopter that landed in .  

At 6:43 p.m., a Cranford woman driving a white VW Eos east on Midway Avenue struck Reiss as she was crossing Midway Avenue between Tillotson Road and Ridge Way. Police have not released the identity of the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

"There are no charges filed at this time," Trigo said. "However, the investigation is continuing. During the investigation, we have spoken with witnesses, and it does not appear that speed was a factor in the incident." He added that police are also conducting mechanical tests on the VW.
