Four Juveniles Under House Arrest For Burglary in New Providence

Police responded to a burglary at a garden apartment yesterday and determined that a 12-gauge shotgun and a Ruger 9mm handgun with two fully loaded high capacity magazines were stolen.

New Providence Police Department responded yesterday at approximately 5:20 p.m. to a residential burglary at a local garden apartment.

During the investigation of this burglary, it was determined that a 12-gauge shotgun, and a Ruger 9mm handgun with two fully loaded high capacity magazines were stolen.

The Detective Bureau responded and investigated this crime. Detective Sretenovic, Detective Bubb, Lieutenant Gazaway and Patrolman Diamond worked through the night into the morning hours and were able to identify and arrest all of the involved suspects.

A female juvenile suspect was arrested at her home in Berkeley Heights. During a search of her home by New Providence police officers with the assistance of Berkeley Heights and Union County police officers, the 9mm handgun and the fully loaded magazines were located.

Two New Providence juveniles were also arrested and charged with the burglary and theft. A fourth suspect, a juvenile from South Orange, was observed by Maplewood Police and fled on foot. After an extensive manhunt, the suspect was arrested by Maplewood Police officers and turned over to the New Providence Police.

The shotgun, a pistol gripped 12-gauge Mossberg pump shotgun, was located concealed in a wooded area of Veterans Park in New Providence.

All four juveniles have been charged with the offenses and were placed on house arrest pending Union County court action.
