A Hillside man has been charged with first-degree attempted murder in connection with a shooting at a fraternity house last month, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Monday.
Shaquan Landrum, 25, additionally is charged with second- and third-degree weapons offenses, third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance (cocaine), third-degree making terroristic threats, and several other lesser charges. State Superior Court Judge Regina Caulfield set bail at $250,000 with no cash alternative.
It was approximately 2 a.m. on April 18, 2014 when shots were fired outside an off-campus Kean University fraternity house on the 200 block of Conant Street in Hillside, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Rob Vanderstreet, who is prosecuting the case. The victim, an adult
male student at the university, was rushed to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition, Vanderstreet said.
A two-week joint investigation involving the Hillside Police Department and the Union County Prosecutor’s Office’s Guns, Gangs, Drugs, and Violent Crimes Task Force identified Landrum as the alleged shooter in the case.
Landrum was arrested late last month on lesser charges before additional
offenses, including attempted murder, were filed on Friday.
