Merchant Falls Victim to Advertising Scam

Any other potential victims asked to call New Providence Detective Bureau.

A New Providence business owner fell victim to an advertising scam after he thought he was buying space in the school district's weekly folders.

The merchant told police that he bought advertising space in May from a man offering ads in the district's folders that are sent home weekly with students, police said.

The company was supposed to supply 2,000 folders with the ad at the beginning of the school year, but they were never delivered, police said.

Attempts were made to contact the company with no response, police said.

Any other potential victims of the advertising scam are advised to call the New Providence Detective Bureau at 908-665-1111.
