New Providence Car Accident Leaves Three Injured

One vehicle accident occurred on South Street near Hansel Road intersection. The passengers, a mother and two children, were transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital.

A car crashed into a power pole on South Street just before 6 p.m. today, right near the intersection of Hansel Road, which resulted in three injuries.

This was a serious accident and is still under investigation, New Providence Sgt. Robert Carroll said. All three passengers — a mother and two children, ages 2 and 5 — were transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital.

“She didn’t indicate that she hit anything else, she wasn’t cut off or anything like that, she just hit the pole,” Carroll said. “We haven’t determined exactly why she went off the roadway and hit the pole, but we have no indication that there was a second car involved.”

“All things considered, everyone is lucky here. This was a very serious crash,” Carroll said. “We had a doctor on scene [from Summit Medical Group]. She was nice enough to stop. She examined the child and said, ‘make sure the paramedics are coming.’”

, and , and paramedics from Overlook Hospital, were dispatched to the scene.

The power pole was still standing as of 6:30 p.m. But Carroll said the only thing holding the pole up are the power lines.

JCP&L was at the scene, assessing the situation and calling in a crew to replace the pole.

Carroll said he doesn’t think any nearby residences were affected by the accident.
