New Providence Man Arrested for Suspected Cocaine Possession

Borough police made the arrest Saturday morning.

Chatham Borough Police said they arrested a New Providence man for suspected possession of cocaine early Saturday morning.

Police said at approximately 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Lt. Brian Gibbons stopped a car on Watchung Avenue because it matched the description of a suspicious vehicle reported by a resident 30 minutes earlier.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle, Ryan Kitson, 22, of New Providence, denied being in the area of the suspicious vehicle complaint.

Police said Gibbons completed the investigation at the scene and told Kitson he could leave.

As Kitson walked to his car, police said Gibbons noticed he was dragging his foot across the pavement. When Kitson lifted his foot and got into the car, Gibbons noticed a bag of white powder on the ground, according to police.
